Dead Rising (PS4)

It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve played this game on Xbox 360 but today Capcom have released a bundle of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

DR1 is as infuriating as I remember.

It’s a good game, one Hell of a challenge but the lack of intelligence among CPU-controlled survivors gets old fast.

In some ways, DR1 reminds me of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysey.

You have to escort naive and easily slaughtered civillians to a safehouse with very few cordoned off areas to save progress along the way.

The cinematic narrative of this game has always inspired me.

Years later after having played many more horror titles I can better appreciate store puns like “Jill’s Sandwiches – the master of sandwichmaking” being a nod to Resident Evil for example.

Modern horror games could learn a thing or two from Dead Rising.
